Privacy Policy
How we handle your data (spoiler: we don't collect any)
Last Updated: October 5, 2025
The Short Version
FreeDPOTool is a free, open-source Chrome extension that runs entirely on your computer. We don't collect your data. We don't track you. We don't have servers storing anything about you. This privacy policy explains what that means in detail.
1. What Data We Collect
None. Seriously. The FreeDPOTool extension runs 100% locally on your computer. We have no servers, no databases, no analytics platforms. When you use FreeDPOTool:
- Your DPIAs, DSARs, and compliance records stay on YOUR computer
- We don't see what websites you visit
- We don't track which features you use
- We don't collect usage statistics or telemetry
- We don't require accounts, so we don't have your email or name
- The extension doesn't 'phone home' or send any data externally
You can verify this by reviewing our open-source code on GitHub. Every network request (there aren't any) is visible in the source code.
2. This Website (freedpotool.com)
This website is a static presentation site hosted on Vercel with Cloudflare CDN. We use the following services:
- Vercel (Hosting): Stores server logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited) for 30 days for security and debugging. US-based with Standard Contractual Clauses.
- Cloudflare (CDN): Provides DDoS protection and caching. May temporarily log IP addresses. Certified under EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
- Google Analytics: We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use our site (pages visited, time on site, referral sources). This uses cookies. You can opt out via cookie banner.
- Facebook Pixel: Tracks visitor actions to optimize our outreach to DPOs. Uses cookies. You can decline via cookie banner.
4. Who We Share Data With
Nobody. We don't have your data to share. When you use FreeDPOTool:
- No data is sent to us or any third party
- Export functions (PDF, CSV) save files to YOUR computer—we never receive copies
- Optional features like regulatory updates fetch public RSS feeds—but your usage isn't tracked
- The AI features run locally in your browser—no cloud AI services are called
6. Data Security
Since all FreeDPOTool data stays on your computer:
- Security depends on your device security (lock screen, full-disk encryption, etc.)
- The extension offers optional AES-256 encryption for sensitive records
- Set a master password to encrypt your compliance data at rest
- Chrome's security model sandboxes extensions—your FreeDPOTool data is isolated from other extensions
We recommend enabling full-disk encryption on your device and using the optional encryption feature for sensitive compliance records.
